
The Economic Development Commission (EDC) was re-established in 2006. The EDC's mission is to organize and promote sound economic growth to Thomaston by stimulating the expansion of existing businesses, attracting new enterprises, and assuring a favorable community climate for new ideas and economic growth while respecting the character and history of the community.
The all volunteer Commission meets on the 2nd Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in Meeting Room #1, on the 4th floor of the Town Hall. Members of the Public, especially business owners and commercial property owners, are encouraged to attend.

Economic Grants and Incentives
Town of Thomaston Tax Incentive Program
This program was developed in 2007 and underwent a major update in 2017. The purpose of the Thomaston Tax Incentive Program is to attract, retain and expand qualified businesses, to create employment opportunities, and to promote responsible economic growth to ensure Thomaston's future as a desirable community in which to live and work. Any business or property owner that invests at least $25,000 in real property improvements may qualify.

State of Connecticut Enterprise Zone Program
Thomaston was approved by the state legislature as an enterprise zone town and adopted the boundaries of its enterprise zone in 2015 to include all commercial and industrial zones in Thomaston. Any qualifying real or personal property new to the Grand List may be eligible for a 5 year, 80% exemption of local property taxes, as well as state credits toward portions of the Connecticut Corporate Business Tax.

Manufacturing Innovation Fund Voucher Program (MVP)
Provides financial assistance to Connecticut manufacturers to help them undertake innovative projects that will significantly improve productivity efficiency and competitiveness in the global marketplace.

State Trade Expansion Program
Provides funding through State reimbursements to companies involves in exports. The primary objective is to aid companies in expanding their export initiatives and to increase eligible companies’ export sales by spurring participation in export activities.
