                                                When Taxes Are Due

Real Estate and Personal property taxes are paid in two installments, July 1st and January1st. Failure to pay on or before August 1st and February 1st will result in a late payment with interest at 1 ½% per month (18%) per year computed from the due date of July 1st or January 1st, per state statute 12-145. Minimum charge is $2.00.

Motor Vehicle taxes are due and payable in one Installment. Bills are calculated from an October 1st date…if you have sold or traded an automobile for which you have received a bill, bring proof of the sale (e.g. letter from insurance company, bill of sale, or receipt from DMV) or license plate receipt from DMV to the Assessor’s Office for bill reduction. (860-283-0305)

Notice to Thomaston Tax payers with DELINQUENT MOTOR VEHICLE taxes
On March 31, 2010 at a Thomaston town meeting an ordinance was adopted that requires ANY delinquent motor vehicle bill be charged a $2.00 delinquent fee. Please be aware that August 3rd 2010 ANY delinquent car tax will be billed an additional $2.00.

                               CREDIT CARDS:

Thomaston taxpayers are now able to pay their real estate, personal property, motor vehicle, and supplemental motor vehicle taxes with a credit card, debit card, or e-check either online or in the Tax Office.  This service is provided through Point & Pay.

To pay online, the list number from your tax bill is required.  If taxes are not paid by the due date and become delinquent, please call the Tax Office at 860-283-4271 during office hours for the current amount due prior to making your payment.  Please note, delinquent motor vehicle or supplemental motor vehicle taxes cannot be paid with a credit card, debit card, or e-check.  Payment must be in the form of cash, money order, or certified bank check.

Credit and Debit Card Payments:

To better serve the community, the Tax Office has partnered with Point & Pay to accept credit or debit card payments.  Point & Pay adds a 2.75% ($2.00 minimum) convenience fee for processing your payment.  The 13-digit list number is required in order to complete your payment.  Click on the appropriate link below to start the payment process.

E-Check Payments:

Payments can be made by e-check also.  You will need your bank’s routing number and your account number to use this service.  There is a $2.95 convenience fee for each e-check that is issued.  If you have multiple bills you want to pay by e-check, please choose the Multiple Tax Payments link below to avoid paying the $2.95 convenience fee multiple times.  The 13-digit list number is required to process this payment.  Click on the appropriate link below to start the payment process.
